Public-spirited Cheddar residents looking for a new year's resolution are being encouraged to join the growing army of volunteers in the area.
There are roles to suit almost everyone, from supporting your local library to driving people to appointments or supporting the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
England cricket player Jos Buttler, who grew up in Wedmore, and former Axbridge mayor Mike Taylor have both received Queen's New Year Honours.
Buttler has received an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list following his heroics in helping England win the Cricket World Cup.
Christmas and New Year revellers are being reminded to stay safe and to only use licensed taxis when heading out to celebrate.

Prickles Hedgehog Rescue in Cheddar has made an appeal for newspaper to use as bedding for its animals.
The charity is currently caring for more than 190 hedgehogs and it is running out of newspaper to use as bedding for the hogs.

The winners of the best Christmas lights in Cheddar's Cliff Street lighting competition have been presented with their trophy.
Mother and daughter Sarah and Freya Neal, together with their border terrier Frederic, received the trophy for winning the competition, which is held as part of the village's annual Festive Night celebrations.

The bass guitarist from the rock band Reef is holding a fundraising gig in aid of the Cheddar Pump Track.
Jack Bessant will be performing with the Cheddar Experiment Band at the gig in Cheddar Village Hall on Saturday January 11.

Avon and Somerset Police has issued crime prevention advice to homeowners in Cheddar following a number of thefts of electrical items from properties in the village.
There have been few break-ins/thefts from properties in Cheddar of electrical items, particularly TVs, and at this time of year when new items may still be in their boxes and easier to steal, the constabulary is urging people to be extra careful.
